Ways to view data in the Input Table using Grouping & Filtering

As an Input Table grows, it becomes difficult to make sense of this data. Grouping & filtering are features that give you the ability to manipulate views of the data—data is not being deleted or altered. They are just hidden from a particular view.

Grouping Line Items

To group data, an Input Table must have Dimensions that tag line items into groups. In the example below, Expense line items are tagged with "Department" and "Region". Using the Group feature, we can Group by Region, and then further Group by the Department Dimensions.

Filtering Line Items

Filtering is another way of distilling data to only the line items you want to see. Like Grouping, to filter data, the Input Table would need to have Dimensions. You can create a condition to filter out records within the view you are currently viewing.

Adding Conditions

A condition reads much like a sentence. The example below can be read as: "Show me the line items where the Department is Program Manager AND Start date is Current month".

Using Conjunctions

You can logically connect conditions, into a condition group, using conjunctions. The two conjunctions available are "And" & "Or":

  • You can use "And" when you want all conditions in a group to be met.

  • Otherwise, you can "Or" when you'd like any condition in a group to be met.

Removing Conditions

You can remove a condition from a view by clicking on the trash can icon next to that condition.

Quick Search Line Items

Another way to quickly explore your data is via Quick Search on Inputs. Click into the Search bar and begin typing, line items will be filtered in real-time to match your search.

Sorting line items

If you've been trying to find a way to swiftly sort your line items in tables by different columns, you might have noticed something – that feature isn't available yet in Basis.

While we don't have the quick sort button you might be hoping for, there's still a way to organize your line items to your liking.

  1. Hover Over a Line Item: Find the line item you want to move in a Block table.

  2. Grab the :: Icon: You'll see this icon when you hover over a line item. Click and hold it.

  3. Drag to Reorder: Move the line item up or down to your preferred spot in the list.
