Gross Profit % shows as '-' in my P&L

If you've been keeping an eye on your Profit & Loss (P&L) statements in Basis, you might have spotted a quirky thing. You see, 'Gross Profit %' gets neatly calculated for your monthly columns, but for Quarterly and Yearly columns, it just shows up as '-'.

Why Can't You See Aggregate % for Quarters and Years?

  • It's Complicated: The issue is that we can't just average out the 'Gross Profit %' from each month for a longer period.

  • The Denominator Dilemma: The puzzle piece is the denominator – the system can't automatically figure out what this should be for each month to accurately calculate Quarterly or Yearly aggregates of percent line items like 'Gross Profit %'.

Looking for a Fix?

  • Custom Creation: If having 'Gross Profit %' for longer periods is crucial for you, there's a workaround. You can create a custom Numeric line item.

  • DIY Approach: Plug in hard-coded values for your custom 'Gross Profit %' line item. It requires a bit more legwork, but it gets the job done.
